The firebug according to the New York Post is believed to be a mentally disturbed man that frequents the area. Craig Tamanaha, 49, is allegedly responsible for the blaze. Tamanaha is in custody and facing several charges including everything from arson to criminal mischief, reckless endangerment, and criminal trespass.

A spokesperson for the NYPD said Tamanaha, is seen in Fox Square, which is located near the famous Sixth Avenue Building that houses the New York Post, Wall Street Journal, and Fox News. The disturbed gentleman is often in the area wondering around, even though he has an address in Brooklyn. He was arrested shortly after setting fire to a Christmas tree also near Midtown’s News Corp. Building.

The fire was set in the early morning hours on Wednesday and quickly spread to the top of the tree and on to three other trees that were also decorated with Christmas lights. If that's not bad enough the yuletide fire damaged roughly $500,000 in property.

Unfortunately, Craig Tamanaha has had a few run-ins with New Yorks's finest, Most recently over the summer with an incident involving a controlled substance. Hopefully, he can get some much-needed mental health assistance and enter a rehab program so that when he gets out of jail he can live a more productive life. If you or someone you know is suffering from mental illness and needs help call the 24/7 crisis hotline (214) 247-6568 for more details.
