The Master’s Men to Hold Farewell Concert in Silsbee
Silsbee, Texas (KTSR-FM) - A longtime music ministry in Southeast Texas is getting ready to take its final bow.
Over the years, The Master’s Men traveled all across the region. They sang in hundreds of churches and at many community events. Their travels took them across Southeast Texas, into Louisiana, up near the Arkansas border, and even as far as New Mexico.
The group began in 1995 in a very simple way. Three different singing groups from First Baptist Church in Silsbee came together to sing at a church member’s funeral. After that service, people from other churches began asking the singers to come perform for them. Before long, the group started practicing more songs and putting on full concerts.
The group also hosted more than 30 concerts with some of the top gospel groups in the country. One special thing about The Master’s Men is that they have always been a non-profit ministry. Members were never paid for their time, even with long practices and weekend travel.
The current members of The Master’s Men are:
- Rusty Mott, lead vocalist from Spurger
- Yvette Morgan, tenor from Kirbyville
- Bill Wright, baritone from Silsbee
- Kent Houp, baritone and emcee from Wildwood
- Mike Burkhalter from Garrison
