Bomb Threats Reported in Lake Charles on Thursday, Among National Threats
A number of similar bomb threats were reported across the United States and Canada on Thursday, December 13, 2018. Lake Charles, as well as the Lafayette area, also seem to have been subject to those threats.
The Lake Charles Police Department received two calls at 12:28 pm from 425 Broad Street, where two employees reported receiving threats via e-mail. Officers spoke with the manager of the business and determined no search was needed of the building. Then at 1:35 pm, LCPD responded to 3650 Senator J. Bennett Johnson Ave. in regards to a second threat that also came via e-mail.
The content of both incidents was similar. A fire safety crew had already searched the premises before officers arrived. No additional help from the police department was needed, said the media release.
Chicago, Miami, New York, San Fransico, Seattle, and Washington, D.C., and more all received email threats on today. After further investigation from law enforcement, as well as the FBI and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, no threats were found.
The FBI told CNN, "As always, we encourage the public to remain vigilant and to promptly report suspicious activities which could represent a threat to public safety".
