Today in Tha Wire Salim Akil, known for directing and producing BET shows like Being Mary Jane, The Game, the CW's Black Lightning, to the movie Sparkle, and OWN Network hit show Love is... and more, has got some major problems. His directing/producing career wouldn't be as famous without his wife, screenwriter and television producer Mara Brock Akil. Together they built the film and production empire, Akil Productions. The "Power Showrunners" is noted for turning out some of the hottest films and TV shows in Urban entertainment over the last decade.

Akil's marriage, credibility, and business are all in jeopardy now that actress, Amber Dixon Brenner, has accused him of domestic violence and sexual misconduct among other things. According to Jezebel, Brenner claims she's been his side-piece for 10-years! She filed suit against the popular director making accusations of everything from abuse and assault, to a breach of contract. The actress claims in the legal docs that she endured the physical and verbally abusive relationship so long because he dangled "potential acting roles and professional collaborations," leading her to believe they would be in business together.

Brenner goes on to accuse Akil of being emotionally abusive. She alleges he breached a contract they had and pitch portions of a script she wrote to ABC, for a show called Documenting Love. When that didn't work, Akil allegedly brought it to the Own Network and used it to create the hit series Love Is...

The shocking details have stunned the entertainment world, and I'm sure his wife isn't happy either. Brenner filed the lawsuit November 20, 2018, and so far the talented director and his camp have made no comment. In the meantime, Jezebel reports Brenner is suing for an undisclosed amount that includes compensatory damages, emotional distress, attorney fees, and punitive damages.
