For years Louisiana has been on the cutting edge of having some of the bigger blockbuster movies filmed here

According to Ranker, here are some of the top movies that were filmed in Louisiana and are relatively classics in the movie world. Now I had to throw in a few that I remembered personally that have also peaked my interest,

Easy Rider

While the movie was filmed in various locations. Some of the best shots were in Lafayette and Lake Pontchartrain. The movie was filed in 1969 and starred Peter Fonda and Dennis Hopper. The movie was set where motorcyclists would be transporting drugs to New Orleans just in time for Mardi Gras. We all know how Louisiana loves to have a good time.

Venom

Sure this one wasn't a box office hit, but it was a movie that I loved at the time. This movie was shot in Amite, Choctaw, Hammond, and New Orleans. One thing Louisiana has is a lot of water and areas that can give you the creeps. It was also released right after Hurricane Katrina according to Wikipedia, which is why many of you may not remember it. It also starred Megan Good and Agnes Bruckner.

The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn- Part 1

Unless you were hiding under a rock in the early 2,000's you have followed The Twilight Series. This was filmed in Baton Rouge in order to try and keep the budget down to a reasonable price.

Ray

The was undeniably one of the best roles ever for Jamie Foxx as he portrayed a musical legend who crossed all genres of music and broke unreachable barriers at that time. This movie was filmed mostly in New Orleans with some of the remaining elements being filmed in Los Angles. For almost 3 hours Jamie Foxx transformed into the music icon and held the audience captivated during the course of the movie.

Runaway Jury

This drama-filled movie was filmed and based in New Orleans and starred Gene Hackman and Dustin Hoffman. The movie was based on the John Grisham novel. It's plenty of cutting edge to this movie and will keep you on the edge of your seat until the end.

The Longshots

The Film follows Jasmine Plummer who is the first female to participate in The Pop Warner Football tournament. The movie stars Ice Cube and Keke Palmer and was director by rocker turned filmmaker Fred Durst of the band Limp Bizkit. The movie was filmed in Minden Louisiana and Northwestern Louisiana.

The Toy

I remember this movie as a child and still love it to this day. The movie starred the late great Jackie Gleason and comedian Richard Pryor. The concept was unbelievable, but they did a pretty good job of convincing us otherwise. This comedy classic was filmed in Baton Rouge in 1982 and still holds up to the test of time.

Sex, Lies, and Videotape

When you talk about controversial movies, this is probably one of the ones that kicked off the phenomenon of video footage and I dare to say it, the popularity of adult tapes without consent. The movie was directed by Steven Soderbergh and stars Andie MacDowell and James Spader. At the time I was underage to watch it, but I remember the chatter around the movie. The movie was filmed in Baton Rouge in 1989 and while the budget was small, it more than tripled the amount at the box- office.

Since I have lived here for 20- plus years I can completely understand some of the breaks they get from filming their movies here. However, Louisiana is a nice place so who wouldn't want to be in the Bayou state with some of the best drinks, best music, and fun times. There are more movies that you may not have realized were filmed in parts of Louisiana, You can check out some of the others here.
