I was leaving work last night and decided to just ride around the city a little, When I turned left on the corner of Enterprise and Broad, I saw cars parked almost to the street. The cars were lined up for blocks and I was surprised at the overflow of people.

I was taken aback a little as I was sure that someone wouldn't be having a party and I did not know about it, but there was a celebration just not the kind I am used to.

The Calcasieu Council on Aging's Bingeaux Palace reopened at a new location 2030 Broad Street. They were temporarily housed in Vinton at an old bingo hall there right after Hurricane Laura and decided to move back to Lake Charles once they were able to recoup enough profits for the facility.

Bingo is a great recreational game for many in the senior citizen's community and for those just wanting to have a little downtime. It is also a great tool for networking and surrounding yourself with new people and possibly even new friends.

The facility is also temporary as they are planning to move to another location in 2024. But for now, you can enjoy and have a great time in the process.

LOOK: Here are the best lake towns to live in

Many of the included towns jump out at the casual observer as popular summer-rental spots--the Ozarks' Branson, Missouri, or Arizona's Lake Havasu--it might surprise you to dive deeper into some quality-of-life offerings beyond the beach and vacation homes. You'll likely pick up some knowledge from a wide range of Americana: one of the last remaining 1950s-style drive-ins in the Midwest; a Florida town that started as a Civil War veteran retirement area; an island boasting some of the country's top public schools and wealth-earners right in the middle of a lake between Seattle and Bellevue; and even a California town containing much more than Johnny Cash's prison blues.
