Update: The shooting happened at Race way Gas on Martin Luther King Highway and the victims name was Juston Joseph Landry. There was a complaint of an individual threatening someone with a gun. The officer whose name has not been released located the subject and at some point discharged his weapon. The Louisiana State Police Bureau of Investigations responded to the scene at the request of Lake Charles Police Department and an investigation remains active and is ongoing.

While information is still limited as to the overnight shooting that took place in North Lake Charles around MLK Highway, we do know that a black male was killed last night by a Lake Charles Police Officer.

The officer himself was not wounded, and many of the details leading up to the shooting are not completely clear. According to Sgt. Jeff Keenum, they were called to a local gas station where a man brandished a gun and threatened the patron.

When cops arrived, they apparently saw the suspect and this is when the shooting occurred. As mentioned earlier, there are still a lot of loose ends and limited information at the moment. We'll keep you updated as soon as we get more details on the shooting.
