Local Teacher Arrested for Inappropriate Sexual Relationship with Student
The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office (CPSO) has reportedly arrested James P. Gaharan, Jr. 54, of Lake Charles on 2 counts of felony carnal knowledge and two (2) counts of indecent behavior with a juvenile.
On May 15, CPSO received a complaint about Gaharan, a local high school teacher, for "possibly having an inappropriate sexual relationship with one of his students".
"During the investigation detectives learned sometime between January and April, Gaharan and the 15-year-old student engaged in sexual activity at his residence as well as another location in Calcasieu Parish. It was also learned Gaharan engaged in explicit conversations with the student on an adult website." - CPSO media release
Upon completion of the investigation, detectives turned it over the D.A.'s office, and on May 24, Gaharan was indicted by a Calcasieu Parish Grand Jury where a warrant was also issued for his arrest.
Gaharan was located on the same day at his residence by CPSO detectives and arrested and booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center. He is charged with 2 counts of felony carnal knowledge of a juvenile; 2 counts of indecent behavior with a juvenile; computer-aided solicitation of a minor; and obstruction of justice. Gaharan's bond is set at $130,000.
