One of the biggest mistakes you can make in the ministry is to compare ourselves to someone else. In fact, it has been stated that if any two of us are identical one of us may be unnecessary! There are differences in ministries, however, the same Lord. (1 Corinthians 12: 5)

It is very true that without assistance from others, you will never become all you can be, but God desires that we be mentored, not cloned. He has called each of us to emphasize certain truth at different times The actual need determines the emphasis.

If God calls us to be a pastor, it's like being a general practitioner. If He calls us to be an evangelist or a teacher, He's calling us to be a specialist. "For to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, to another the word of knowledge through the same Spirit, to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by the same Spirit, to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another discerning spirits, to another different kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues. However, one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually as He wills" (1 Corinthians 8:11).

Not everyone will understand or either appreciate the various styles of ministry. We must realize that this is not a popularity contest. You are called to be a servant, not a superstar. A major prerequisite for ministry is "that those who have been given a trust must prove faithful" (1 Corinthians 4:2). As surely as a plant only grows in the correct type of soil, you will only succeed in the place to which God has assigned you.
