Louisiana’s Roads And Bridges Struggle With Low Grades
(KHLA - Lake Charles, Louisiana) - Louisiana received a dismal score on its report card after a team of civil engineers evaluated the state's water systems, roads, bridges, and other infrastructure.
Louisiana "struggles to maintain its infrastructure" for a "safe, modern society," according to the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) 2025 infrastructure report card, which was released last week.

FOX 8 in New Orleans reporting that this is partly because of natural disasters, outdated infrastructure, and a lack of resources and regulations to quickly update and repair it.

That's an overall grade of a C-.
Kirk Lowery, the Louisiana Report Card chairman, said that these findings are actually an improvement from previous grades.
He told FOX 8 that “in 2012 when we did it, it was a D. In 2017 it was a D+”.
According to Lowery, Louisiana utilized a large portion of the money it received from the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act of 2021 for widening projects, airport repaving throughout the state, better rural water systems, and other continuous upgrades.
The USA as a whole received a C overall infrastructure grade from ASCE.
