Top 10 Things You Can Find In A Louisiana Kitchen
KNGT | Louisiana — If you grew up in Louisiana like I did, then you know the kitchen is more than just a place to cook, it's the heart of the house. It's where secrets are told, roux is judged, and somebody’s always hollerin’ “Who ate the last link of boudin?”
When you step into a Louisiana kitchen and you're gonna see some things that don’t always make sense to outsiders. For starters, there’s always a cast iron skillet on the stove that looks like it’s been passed down since the Civil War (we keep ours in the oven). You don’t touch it unless you know what you’re doing, or unless you want your hand slapped.

There’s usually a jar of bacon grease sittin’ next to the stove. We don’t throw that out, it’s liquid gold. It goes in everything from green beans to gravy. You’ll also probably find a stained recipe card written in Maw Maw’s handwriting that says things like “Add a lil’ bit till it looks right.”
And don’t act surprised if there’s a Saints schedule magnet on the fridge from 2009.
One drawer has nothing but sauce packets and church fans. The other? A mystery. Nobody opens it. That’s Paw Paw’s drawer.
And no matter how clean the house is, there’s always one fly that won’t leave because it knows the good food’s coming.
