If the weather does cooperate, what are the KEY ways to find the best ways to watch the meteor showers? Here are a few...

TIPS TO WATCHING A METEOR SHOWER

  • Find a dark place with a clear view of the sky.
  • Bring a chair or blanket so you can lie back and get comfortable.
  • Let your eyes adjust to the dark for at least 20 minutes.
  • Turn off bright lights and phones so your eyes stay used to the dark.
  • Be patient. You might not see a meteor right away, but they come in waves.

So what are the best times to watch? The Experts say that the best time to watch a meteor shower is between midnight and 3 a.m. Try to find a spot away from city lights, like an open field or park. Look toward the southern sky, but remember, meteors can appear anywhere overhead.

Two meteor showers, the Southern Delta Aquariids and the Alpha Capricornids, are both active in July. This year, they will peak around the same night, which means you might see more meteors than usual.

  • The Southern Delta Aquariids are best known for steady streaks of light. At their peak, you could see about 20 to 25 meteors an hour.
  • The Alpha Capricornids don’t bring as many meteors, but they sometimes create big, bright fireballs that light up the whole sky.

The target date for the meteor shower to be most visible is July 29th.
