Daylight Saving Time Coming in November: Didn’t Louisiana Vote to Stop That?

Lake Charles, La [KNGT-FM] - Coming up in November, Daylight Saving Time will be observed. That is when we set the clocks back one hour, and it will start getting darker earlier.

There has been some confusion in Louisiana about do we still observe it in the bayou state? If you remember back in 2020, the Louisiana legislature voted to make Daylight Saving Time permanent. That way we stayed on the same time all year long. So you are probably wondering, since 2020, why isn't Louisiana doing that?

Well, that is because even though lawmakers voted for it to happen, it is still subject to federal law, which currently does not allow states to remain on daylight time year-round without Congressional approval. So because of that, Louisiana continues to switch its clocks, observing daylight saving time and then falling back to standard time, in accordance with the federal schedule.

So why do we spring forward and fall back every six months or so? In Spring, we “spring forward” by setting clocks one hour ahead, giving you more daylight in the evenin,g while in the Fall, we “fall back” by setting clocks one hour back, returning to standard time with more daylight in the morning.

Coming up on Sunday, November 2, 2025, you will have to do just that, fall back one hour, so at 2:00 am, the time will fall back to 1:00 am. Look at it this way, you get one hour of extra sleep that weekend.

So make sure you have your alarms set correctly and get ready for it to get dark much earlier soon.
