When Should You Put Up Your Christmas Tree? Experts Explain the Best Date
🐊 KNGT 🐊 | Lake Charles, LA — Alright y’all… let’s talk Christmas trees.
Every year, this same question bounces around the office. Somebody walks in with glitter on their shirt and we all go, “Hold up… your tree’s up already?”
Now look, no judgement here. The weather cools off, the holiday ads hit the TV, the lights start popping up down Ryan Street, and boom, your brain goes straight into Christmas mode.
When is it to early to put up that Christmas Tree?
So, when do we put up the tree? And is it ever “too early?” According to GoodHousekeeping.com, folks all over the place are split right down the middle.
When I was a kid in Sulphur, our tree always went up that first week of December. That was the rule. Momma didn’t play about it. But now that I have a family and a little girl, the tree keeps getting put up earlier and earlier. Its almost like after Halloween this thing is in the corner of the house. And like many homes it will be there until sometime in February.
But other families treat tree day like a big ol’ event. Good Housekeeping did a survey and found most folks set up their tree sometime between December 2 and December 23. The most popular day? December 1. One outta four people wait for that date, like it’s a holiday all by itself.
And here’s another thing, a lot depends on what kind of tree you’ve got.
If you’re using an artificial tree, well, you can put that thing up whenever you find the time. But if you’re buying a real one, your timing kinda depends on delivery days, how fresh you want it, and how fast you can saw off the bottom without losing a finger.
Back in the old days, like way back, folks didn’t put the tree up till the last minute. We’re talking December 22 or 23. Some even waited till Christmas Eve. One expert said decorating too early was supposed to bring bad luck.
Nowadays? Traditions have changed. A lot of people start way to early, lets face it some stores start Christmas right after July 4th.
But here’s the real truth:
There ain’t one perfect date.
There ain’t one “right” way.
Every family does it different, and that’s what makes it special.
So put your tree up early… wait till December… do it on Christmas Eve… whatever makes your house feel warm and happy. That’s what matters most. Merry Christmas from me and my family, to you and your family!
