107 Jamz Teams Up With Lake Charles Toyota and Dewanna’s Closet
As school has officially be back in session for about 2 weeks now. Many of the students were excited to officially be back in school along with their friends and teachers. However, I just found out some startling and troubling news pertaining to some of our kids in the area. For some students they are excited about beginning school for the wrong reason. That is because they are finally able to have a full meal to eat. For some, this is the only meal of the day that they will enjoy.
Thirty percent of Calcasieu Parish Students are food insufficient, meaning that they are only getting meals at school. We are joining forces with Dewanna' Closet, Lake Charles Toyota, Market Basket, Sale Street Baptist Church and 2 Men and a Truck to make sure that this is not something that will continue. We all remember being students and being in school. Some of us also remember our parents waking up early and making sure that we had breakfast in the morning before school. While we also had a good lunch at school, some of us also remember coming home and expecting something else for later that night. Many of these kids are not in a good situation and while the parents are trying their best, unfortunately the kids are the ones who are having to suffer.
This Saturday The People's Station 107 Jamz will be live at Market Basket on 3rd avenue for our Food For Thought Drive. We are asking everyone to come out and drop off your non perishable items for the food drive. While you're shopping inside Market Basket pick up a few extra items and help us help out the kids in Calcasieu Parish so they can have a deserving meal for themselves. Gina Cook and yours truly will be on sight this Saturday beginning at 9 am and we are looking forward to seeing you there.
